Tamworth RUFC Ladies have plenty to celebrate following an outstanding centenary season, securing 3rd place in Women's NC2 Midlands West—a significant improvement on last season's 6th-place finish.

The squad enjoyed a fantastic campaign, winning seven of their thirteen league fixtures, including an impressive run of five consecutive victories to open the season. The strong start set the tone for one of the club's most successful seasons to date and highlighted the continued growth of the women's section.

The season began under the leadership of captain Lily Giles, whose commitment and determination inspired the squad. Unfortunately, Lily suffered a knee injury during the away fixture against Stafford on 5 October, ruling her out for the remainder of the campaign. Following her injury, Dickie stepped into the captaincy, supported by vice-captain Emma March, who helped guide the team through the rest of the season.

While there is much to celebrate on the pitch, the end of the season also marks the end of an era for the club.

Head coach Andy "Shandy" Smith has announced that he will be stepping away from coaching rugby after leading the women's team since its formation in 2019. Andy has been instrumental in establishing and developing both the ladies' and girls' sections at Tamworth RUFC, and his influence reaches far beyond results on the field.

Reflecting on his impact, player Elise said:

"Shandy has played a huge role in my growth and development, both on and off the pitch. His encouragement, knowledge and commitment have helped build my confidence, further my skills and deepen my understanding of rugby.

Shandy's contributions to establishing and developing the ladies' and girls' section at TRUFC have been invaluable. Through his hard work and dedication, he has created opportunities for so many players to get involved in rugby, and develop within the sport. The success and continued growth of the section are a direct reflection of the time and effort he has invested, and the impact he has had on the club and its players will be felt for years to come."

Club Captain Shelley Ashbolt also paid tribute to Andy's legacy:

"Andy has been at the heart of our rugby community for many years and leaves a lasting impact both on and off the field.

His vision, dedication and leadership played a vital role in creating and developing our girls' section and later establishing and growing the women's team, creating opportunities for so many to be part of the game.

He took a group of women, many of whom had never played rugby before, and through patience, encouragement and belief, helped build not only a team, but a strong and supportive rugby family.
His commitment, passion and respect for every player have helped shape confidence, friendships and lasting memories within our club.
I would like to thank him for his service and the legacy he leaves behind at our club."

Everyone at Tamworth RUFC would like to thank Andy for everything he has done for the club. His dedication has helped build a thriving women's and girls' section, and the foundations he has laid will continue to benefit players for many years to come.

Following their best-ever league finish, Tamworth Ladies are now looking ahead to the new campaign and are recruiting new players.
