Luctonians 2nd XV 54 Tamworth 14

Due to a raft of unavailable regulars Head Coach Tom Franks handed 1st team debuts to no less than four players for the lengthy trip to Herefordshire to face Luctonians 2nd XV who were a bit of an unknown entity having entered Counties 1 Midlands (west) after a major reshuffle of the RFU league structure during the closed season.
Teenagers Dylan Whittigton and Patrick Cole got starting slots whilst Andy Grimes and new signing Matt Williams got their first taste of 1st team rugby from the bench.
Both teams and both sets of supporters showed their respect for the sad passing of Queen Elizabeth with a minutes silence before kick off during which not a sound could be heard as everyone involved reflected the loss of our Monarch.
Tamworth could not have gotten off to a worse start falling behind after only two minutes as Luctonians showed their intentions early on whipping the ball wide their winger outpacing the Tamworth defence to score in the corner.
Tamworth fell further behind as they were hit on the break 12-0
Tamworth then got a foot hold in the game when they set up a driving maul from a lineout and despite their best efforts Luctonians could not halt its progress with Max Nolan getting the final touch. Sid Wood slotted the conversion 12-7
The hosts restored their 12 point advantage with a converted try before Tamworth went back on the attack showing great patience attacking the Luctonians line for Phase after Phase before Macauley Green eventually burrowed over to score. Wood added the extras to make the half time score Luctonians 19 Tamworth 14
The hosts came out for the second period and immediately added their bonus point score a score that seemed to really knock the stuffing out of Tamworth who despite a couple of forays into the opposition 22 could make no further impression on the scoreboard as Luctonians turned the screw adding a further four tries to run out comfortable winners 54-14.
Afterwards Coach Tom Franks said They were a good team and to be honest I can’t see any team coming here and going home with much. We had to make loads of changes today but in no way does any blame lie with the guys who have had their debut today. The lads did everything that was asked of them. I would also like to mention Matt Storer who has come in at tighthead today having not played 1st team rugby for a couple of seasons and has not taken a step backwards in the scrum and Also Lewis Clive who took over from him for the last half an hour.
It’s a bad result no denying but it’s not a season defining result there is still a lot of rugby to be played and we will have availability issues along the way but we will cross those bridges as they come.
We have three home games now so we need to be looking to take fifteen points from those to set us up for an attempt on a top two finish.
