Tamworth Suffer Second Half Mauling

Tamworth made the short trip up the road to Lichfield on Saturday fresh from two hard earned victories to open the season.
It had been some time since the two sides had met but Tamworth’s promotion and Lichfield’s relegation meant once again their paths crossed.
The hosts started the stronger racing into a ten point lead thanks to an early penalty and a well finished converted try.
Tamworth however kept plugging away and opened their account Jay Rosenbach notching a penalty.
Jack Dalton continued his purple patch with a nice try his pace making him too hot to handle for the Lichfield defence sliding over in the corner to make it two tries in two games for the youngster. Rosenbach added the extras from the tee 10-10.
Lichfield scored again to regain control 17-10 but once again Tamworth pegged them back in what was becoming a feisty local derby. Rosenbach won the foot race to drop onto his own kick before being taken out dreadfully late resulting in the referee dishing out Lichfield’s second yellow of the game and upgrading the score to a penalty try. 17-17
It was then Tamworth’s turn to see yellow just before the break again for a silly late shot after the ball had gone. The hosts scored the resultant penalty to go into the break three points to the good 20-17.
Tamworth suffered what could only be described as a meltdown in the second half as the wheels came off in spectacular fashion conceding three early converted try’s whilst down to fourteen men
These were closely followed by two more as Tamworth struggled to contain Lichfield and were to the most part looking totally deflated as they were blown away by a pretty conclusive second half performance from the hosts reflecting their obvious experience at a higher level. Tamworth could make no further inroads on the scoreboard and have got plenty to work on in training this week if they are to bounce back for this weekend’s trip to close neighbours Sutton Coldfield.
