Tamworth went into this week’s home game against Mellish with a record of won three lost one since their promotion knowing that a win in this game would see them in a strong position going into the rest week. Their opponents were at the wrong end of the table still looking for their first win but Tamworth knew that nothing could be taken for granted and every team would be tough at this level. They started the game strongly with a couple of barnstorming runs from back rowers Macauley Green and Kit Smith finding some soft shoulders and gaining some good yardage. It would only take three minutes for them to start converting yards into points with Centre Matt Williams going over in the corner 5-0 The teams then traded a couple of penalties before Tamworth extended their lead Smith smashing his way over from a quick tap penalty. Danny Norton slotted the extras and the hosts led 15-3 Mellish scored next with a slick move through the backs their winger applying the final touch out wide 15-8. The next try came out of nowhere with Mellish appearing to have control of the ball at the back of the scrum on their own five metre line the ball somehow bounced free and was scooped up by the ever watchful Norton who finished the most fortunate of tries he added the conversion and the teams went into half time with Tamworth holding a 22-8 lead. Tamworth’s try bonus point was secured eight minutes into the second period Leighton Norton poaching around the undefended short side sliding in at the corner. The extra two were added and Tamworth were well in control 29-8. The home side remained in control Green getting rewarded for his endeavours all afternoon with a brace of tries either side of the hour mark Norton converted both and the scoreboard was looking far more one sided than the actual match had been. Mellish had been tough opponents but a well rounded Tamworth performance in attack but also defensively keeping the visitors scoring opportunities to a minimum had saw them convincing victors which nudged them up a place to third in the table which is a fine start to their level six journey and can enjoy a rest week this week but knowing that they need to keep an eye on the rest of the season but so far so good. Final Score Tamworth 43 Mellish 8
