Mellish 7 Tamworth 45

Tamworth made the trip to Nottingham to face a Mellish side that although struggling at the wrong end of the table after just one win had accrued a total of nine bonus points, earned from having either lost games by narrow margins or being involved in high scoring games where they have scored four or more tries.
With this in mind Tamworth knew that they had to be on their guard and an early score would settle any nerves. And it took just five minutes for them to get just that when Roman Mustchin ran a lovely line to score his first try for the first team just the beginning of what would prove to be quite an afternoon for the youngster. Danny Norton added the conversion and the visitors led 0-7
Norton added a penalty before Tamworth stretched their lead further when a player at the other end of the age range to Mustchin, Ben Shorthouse recalled to the line up at inside centre sold a ridiculous dummy to the onrushing Mellish defence to score a very popular try amongst his team mates many of which were still at primary school when he started his Tamworth career. The extra’s were added and Tamworth had a 17 point cushion.
Tamworth didn’t let up as they had the previous week and piled even more pressure on Mellish who were struggling to contain them. This soon resulted in try number three when Mustchin showed great strength to power his way over to score his second Norton did the business from the tee and Tamworth took a very healthy 24 point lead into the break.
The second half got underway with probably Mellish’s best period of the game as they looked to put a few phases together but the solid Tamworth defensive set up coped admirably and kept them at arm’s length.
The all important bonus point fourth try for Tamworth came via skipper Josh Roe as he finished off a sublime sweeping move involving the whole team at some stage. The extra’s were added and Tamworth led 31-0
This was soon followed by another score this time winger Jack Dalton’s blistering pace proving too much for Mellish after he was put in by some great work from scrum half Xavier Hill 0-38
Mellish had been better than the score line might suggest and they finally got some points on the board as they crossed the white wash after a nice move off the back of a five metre scrum. 7-38.
Tamworth looked to finish with a flourish and this they did Mustchin receiving the ball way out but outpacing the chasing Mellish pack to round off his hat trick with a theatrical swan dive proving just what an all round player he is proving to be developing into providing pace and power in a man of the match performance. Norton ended the game with a 100% day with the boot to give Tamworth another excellent victory on the road.
Another Nottingham side Paviors are their next opponents when they visit Wiggington Park this weekend for a third versus fourth clash KO 14-15.
