Tamworth welcomed Stourbridge to Wiggy Park on Saturday looking to open their account for the season after defeat on opening day.
It didn’t start too swimmingly as Stourbridge dominated the opening exchanges catching the hosts cold racing into a ten point lead with two early tries.
Tamworth settled and started stringing some meaningful phases together as they looked for a way back into the game.
They were rewarded for their efforts when second rower Callum Morris crossed from close range to half the deficit. 5-10
The game was soon all square when skipper Jamie Lawrence barged over and Tamworth looked to have the momentum in the game. 10-10.
Stourbridge had other ideas though and regained the lead with a converted try as the half time whistle approached. 10-17.
There was still time in the half for some more action though as Stourbridge were reduced to 14 with what can only be described as an extremely harsh yellow card that only the referee could understand what it was for?????
Tamworth took full advantage of the extra man to level the scores again finding room on the outside to put Ollie Cole in for a nice score with his brother Paddy bagging the extra two points. 17-17.
Tamworth started the second period of this topsy turvy game in the ascendancy and quickly opened up a two try lead with Olly Cole breaking free in his own half and his quick feet leaving Stourbridge defenders in his wake as he dotted down for his second try. And just minutes later debutant scrum half Jake Thomas produced a carbon copy of the Cole try and Tamworth had a healthy looking 29-17 lead.
But as this game had already proven neither team seemed to have the ability to hold onto a lead for too long and Stourbridge soon clawed their way back to within one score with a try in the corner. 29-22 making it a nail biting last few minutes for the watching supporters of both sides who had braved the rain to cheer their teams on.
Stourbridge broke once again but as everyone thought fullback Jack Dalton had saved the day for Tamworth with a last ditch tackle enter the man in the middle again who saw the tackle as illegal and proceeded to award Stourbridge a penalty try and send Dalton to the sin bin levelling the scores once more and as the final whistle blew both sides had to be happy with a share of the spoils and left to reflect on the one that got away.
