Second Half Collapse Sinks Tamworth

Tamworth visited Wolverhampton on Saturday with the two sides occupying second and third spots respectively.
And they didn’t get off to the best of starts as they failed to deal with a fairly innocuous attack from the hosts within the first two minutes ending in a converted try from nothing 7-0.
However this did seem to be just a blip as Tamworth took control of the rest of the half with tries from Rob Gemmell, Macauley Green and Leighton Norton. Danny Norton converted all three and Tamworth seemed to be cruising as they took a healthy 7-21 lead into the half time break.
It’s an old saying that it was a game of two halves but so this match proved to be.
Wolverhampton came out of their half time team talk rejuvenated and within the first ten minutes of the second period had turned the game on its head with Tamworth reduced to fourteen with a yellow card for a high tackle Wolverhampton struck three times converting one to lead 24-21.
Tamworth did settle and retook the lead Callum Render finishing a good move down the left. Norton was inches wide with the conversion 24-26.
Ultimately though it was the home side that finished the stronger and with Tamworth again reduced to fourteen they scored in the dying minutes to take the victory that looked so unlikely at the break.
