Tamworth’s 2nd XV welcomed Ashbourne 2nds to Wiggy Park for the start of the Staffordshire Reserve Team League 1 Season.

Captain Dave Yardley had a mix of youth and experience, and power and pace at his disposal for this league opener.
Buoyed on by a crowd who were hungry for some more Rugby back on the Park after quite some time, Town took the lead through evergreen Scrum Half Dave Goodwin with the extra's added by former Colt Joe Edwards. 7-0.
Tamworth took control of the half without adding to the scoreboard and started to put together some good phases of play. Tamworth Lock, Tom Dyer, joined the action part way through the half and added some strength to the Scrum and his usual hard hitting tackling style to the Towns defences as a couple of legs started to tire in the afternoon heat.

Despite best efforts, Ashbourne levelled on the stroke of halftime and we started the 2nd half all square. 7-7

Next on the scoresheet for Town was impressive youngster Jared Marsh, running home from 40 yards, beating a couple of defenders on the way to dotting down to put Town back in the lead. Edwards just wide with his conversion attempt on the angle. 12-7

Shortly followed by Tom Findon, marking his TRUFC debut with a well worked Backs move before touching down beneath the posts, Joe Edwards made no mistake adding the extras. 19-7

Ashbourne battled till the end and added a 2nd unconverted try to finish the scoring at 19-12 to the home team.
