On the 27th of September, the U18 Tamworth girls travelled to Lutterworth in search of a game of 8-a-side rugby. The conditions were windy and impacted play but the Tamworth girls still came out on top with a triumphant score of 0-41. With reduced numbers, two twenty minute halves were played.
Lucie started for the opposition, not being shy of tackling her Tamworth teammates and being a dominant player in both Lutterworth’s defence and attack. The first try of the game was scored by Ellie, placing the ball in the corner. After the restart and phases of play, the ball reached Poppy on the right wing who ran over half of the pitch to score under the posts. From this try, Brogan scored her first conversion of the afternoon and followed it up with a second after Ayala’s try, which was achieved with a determined run through defenders who couldn’t stop her advance. Soon after, Ayala managed a second try. In a moment of fast adjustment, Lutterworth’s pass went to ground and was quickly retrieved by Caitlin who passes the ball down the back’s line and to Poppy who scored another try. To end the game on a good note, Poppy made a lengthy run down the pitch to score for the third time that day, and Brogan converted it successfully.
After those forty minutes, a game was devised where the teams were mixed up entirely for a final ten minutes and in that time both Ellie and Izzy scored a try each, followed by a Lutterworth player also crossing the line to score. A single conversion during this session was achieved by Lucie.
