The Tamworth under 18 girls started their national cup campaign against Melton at home on Sunday 20th October. The pitch was nothing short of muddy so the game was more slow paced than anticipated, but despite this Tamworth adjusted and still came out on top. The final score was 53-5 in favour of Tamworth.
Straight from the kick off, Tamworth set the precedence for the game by stealing the ball back and scoring one minute in. It was quickly followed by many more hard runs and tries. Try scorers were Evangeline, Grace(2), Lilly, and Lexie, and of those five tries, three were converted successfully by Eva. The half ended with a score of 31-0.
In the second half, a much more determined opposition could be seen and they applied more pressure; however, it was still Tamworth who were the first to score. Chloe, Millie, Lilly and Lexie were the try scorers of the half, with Eva converting one of them. Melton were also able to take a try in the middle of Tamworth’s second half ones but failed to convert.
Dames of the game were Grace for the backs and Ella for the forwards; Grace for her good pressure in defence and her attacking running lines, and Ella for her strong jackling abilities and determined tackles.
