Flourishing performance for season finale

The Tamworth U16 Girls’ season has come to a close but has finished on a high. A combination team of Lutterworth and Burton played the Tamworth U16 girls in their final match of the season and the end result was a pleasing 139-0 in favour of Tamworth.

Phases of play were fast and fluid from Tamworth allowing for a quick build up of tries in the first half and a score of 72-0. Multiple players played out of position and started the game in said positions for the first time, however the team’s commitment to each other didn’t let that hinder their work ethic or spirit. Many of the tries were clear runs which were cheered on by the crowd of supporters, whilst others involved carrying the ball into contact but still making ground. Tries scored in this half (in order) came from Ayala (2), Katie, Becky, Millie, Becky, Grace, Millie, Lucie, Ellie, Grace and a first time try for Maddie. All conversions were taken by Amelia and she scored six of the twelve.

The size of the half-time score vouched for a more evenly matched second half with Lutterworth/Burton girls insistent on remaining 'as one' however Tamworth opted to reduce down to thirteen players whilst the opposition remained with fifteen. Feeling more relaxed in the game, Tamworth mixed around the positions to an even further extent but still managed to rack up some more tries: Poppy, Becky, Ayala, Nikola, Grace (2), Izzy L, Ayala, Lucie, Ayala and Poppy. Conversion takers in this half were Amelia with four, and Becky with two. It was Becky’s first go at kicking conversions in a game.

Dames of the game were Nikola for the backs and Lilly for the forwards. Nikola took the ball up the wing on numerous occasions and scored a try whilst Lilly has joined us for the last few games and has quickly adapted to our style of play whilst taking the ball forward in games.

All girls played brilliantly and it was no doubt that they acted and supported eachother as all teams should. Throughout the season the team has both grown in size and developed in skill, making them a force to be reckoned with; of the nineteen games this season, the girls won sixteen. Though it wouldn’t have worked without the two coaches Rich and Abbo working tirelessly week in and week out to ensure that we are the best team that we can be and for that we say thank you.

Many memories were made and friendships formed this year so it was great to end it all on a high note and go out with a bang. Good luck for next season girls!
